Best places to see in Phuket
Phi Phi Island & Bamboo Island
If you go to Phuket or Krabi, best beaches are located around Phi Phi Island. So I will highly recommend to spend atleast two days on Phi Phi island. Bamboo island is also a good one and near to Phi Phi Don. There are no stay option in Bamboo island.
We did a day trip to Phi Phi Island and Bamboo Islands. Days trip to both of these islands by a Speed boat costs us 2000THB per person + 100 THB per person for fins (for snorkeling), after some die hard negotiation
Phang Nga Bay
Any Phuket trip is not complete without a visit to Phang Nga Bay. A distinctive feature of Phang Nga Bay are the sheer limestone hills that emerge vertically out of the emerald-green water. James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are just two of the more famous spots in this bay. To reach James Bond Island, take one of the boat trips from the northern end of Phuket.
Frankly speaking I would never go to Phang Nga Bay again. A total waste of time and money with nothing to see at all. James Bond island is a small island. It finishes before it starts. And at the top of it, high number of tourists to this place is a big turn off. Further there is nothing much to see.
Unfortunately it was raining the whole time I visited Big Buddha statue, so no pictures here. But worth a visit. Since Big Buddha is on a hill, one can see vast blue ocean.
Phuket Fantasea Show
Phuket Fantasia has been rated number 1 attraction in Phuket by TripAdvisor but I would not recommend this show to anyone. Entire show is in regional language, so it made no sense to me. All i could understand was artists performing local dance wearing lavish costumes and some trained animals. Everything else in the amusement park was very pricey. A costume for memento click costs more than 1200 THB.
Best time to visit
Phuket can be visited round the year. But as with another tourist destination, it is best to avoid going in peak tourist time. So better avoid December to February.
May to October is the rainy season, but suggested due to low number of tourists and cheap hotels. Phuket remains hot and humid round the year so plan accordingly.
Day trip booking for any nearby island will generally include pickup and drop at your hotel. Its best to confirm this with the agent before booking.
Shared taxi are cheap in Phuket. If want to ride a bike, you can hire one at around 100THB – 300 THB depending on condition of bike and your negotiations.
I would not bother catching buses in Phuket.
