What to do in Gili Trawangan?

Welcome to Gili Trawangan

If you have made up your mind to visit Gili T after reading my earlier post “Life Away from Madness“, you should now probably know what are the best activities you can do on the island to make your trip more interesting. I have listed most interesting activities here

Things to do in Gili Trawangan

Walk along the coast of island

A leisure walk along the entire island will take about two hours. But total worth of efforts. I will suggest to out at time of low tide. You may go deep in shallow sea, and see some star fishes on coast.

Swim in crystal clear water and play with white sand

Rent a bicycle for 50k IDR and explore the island all day long. Though nothing can beat the evening stroll around it!

Have small kids? No problems

Daily snorkeling trip start at 10AM – 3:30 AM and will set you back by 80K – 10K IDR (depending on how much you haggle). Normally there will be three snorkeling sites around Gili Meno and Gili Air. Followed by lunch at one of these islands. I was lucky to swim with a big turtle at second diving site. Aquatic life is found in abundance near all these small islands. Some snapshots (Screen Grabs) from my GoPro videos (Please excuse the quality)

Live Corals

Scuba Diving

If you planning to get your PADI certificate, you can get it here. There is no dearth of Padi certified SCUBA instructors on all the island.

Gili Yoga Center offers yoga classes twice a day with meditation. Gili T seems to offer something to everyone. You just can not go wrong with this place!

Flyboarding and Surfing

Looking for a surfing class? Its available in Gili T. January – June is the high season for surfing. You can rent a board anywhere on the island.

Horse Back riding

Party All Night

Gili Trawangan is party heaven and you will have no problem in finding one. Complete island turns into a trance heaven after midnight.

Take a Multi Cuisine Cooking class

Taking cooking class is a great way to spend a day and learn how to cook Indonesian cuisine.

There are few massage parlors as well on Gili T. You have choice ranging from Thai massage to traditional Balinese massage and each will set you back by 10K IDR to 20K IDR for one hour job. If you are tired after a grueling trek to Mt Rinjani (as I was), massage is a great way to relax your body.

Local trips

You can find trips to Komodo dragon island, Mount Rinjani trekking (in Lombok) and lots more everywhere near the harbour. The price is almost same for all operators but be prepared to bargain hard if you are traveling on a budget. You may also do day trips to GIli Air and GIli Meno.

Do Nothing, but Relax…

Remember you are here to relax and rejuvenate. Just sit by the beach, watch sunset and and watch millions of stars rising from the sea.

An awesome place to date, isn’t it?

Well.. you seem to like this place a lot… but I don’t see much in it…rather than snorkelling opputinities, beach., you said you can go trekking… the rest is not connecting with the place, everywhere you get messages correct… cooking is fun if they are specialists in it, some different dish… the milkyway way looks beautiful(:

Gili T is still not too commercialized due to shorter tourist season and low tourists over all. That is why, you may not be able to splurge on activities. But hey, isn’t that the whole point ? getting away from rat race, to a peaceful place. If you are looking for more activities, I would rather suggest Bali etc.
Read last point again, that summarizes what I want to say 🙂
